This was a $221 million CM/GC project for a 6.5-mile light rail extension to connect downtown to the Salt Lake City International Airport. Scope included four bridge structures, six stations, paved and ballasted track, utility relocations, a complex tie-in with the existing active light rail system, architectural concrete, paved and ballasted track, and OCS.
The Stacy Witbeck-led joint venture team developed innovative strategies to coordinate complex construction activities with major stakeholders. One such instance featured the complete demolition and reconstruction of a joint roadway/LRT bridge over an active UPRR and commuter rail corridor. This viaduct featured an elevated platform and vertical connection to the commuter rail line below, all built without any unplanned disruption to freight or commuter rail traffic.
