This is a 6.7-mile light rail transit (LRT) project along Van Nuys Boulevard from the Metro Orange Line to San Fernando Road performed under the Progressive Design-Build delivery method. It includes a maintenance and storage facility, located near the Van Nuys Metrolink Station, in an area currently occupied by industrial and commercial use buildings. The LRT will be street running in the middle of Van Nuys Boulevard, a highly trafficked road in Los Angeles. There are 11 proposed stations, along with ten traction power substations.
This will be a new line in Metro’s system, and stands apart from other recently constructed Metro lines as it will not initially connect to other existing light rail routes. However, Van Nuys is the 2nd busiest bus corridor in Los Angeles County, so this new rail system will greatly expand the capacity of public transit and help further alleviate some of the traffic issues in the area. In the future, it will allow for connections with the Sepulveda Pass Project and the North San Fernando Bus Rapid Transit Project, providing residents and visitors with a more robust transit network.
