About the Project

Trinity Metro is extending its 27.2-mile TEXRail commuter rail line 2.1 miles south from the Fort Worth T&P Station into the Near Southside and Medical District. The extension will add a new passenger rail track and Near Southside Station, creating a direct rail connection between the Medical District, downtown Fort Worth and DFW International Airport.

Need

Fort Worth's Medical District supports more than 40,000 jobs and continues to grow as a regional hub for healthcare and employment. Extending service into the district gives workers, patients, and residents a reliable transit option and strengthens connections between the district and the rest of the TEXRail system.

Work

  • Construct a new center-platform station with a park-and-ride facility
  • Build a new passenger rail track alongside an active transportation network
  • Construct pedestrian connections and retaining walls
  • Install signal, communications, lighting and signage systems

Impact

Once complete, the extension will give thousands of Medical District employees and residents a new commuter rail option, supporting the District's continued growth as a major employment center in Fort Worth.
