A continuous collaboration spanning over a decade and three contracts, this is a contract to provide Maintenance of Way Services for a 20-mile section of Sound Transit’s commuter rail system, Amtrak, and BNSF freight rail. The span also includes a layover yard and freight yard.
All activities are performed under dense passenger traffic, requiring close coordination with dispatchers for track access.
Need
In order to ensure the heavily used portion of the alignment remains safely operable, it’s imperative to perform routine inspections and repairs as necessary. Through this contract, the Stacy Witbeck team is able to promptly provide these services to ensure the reliability and safety for all operators on the alignment.
Tasks
Within milepost limits, our team maintains the area within 25 ft. of each main track centerline. The team also maintains spur tracks up to 25 ft. of the centerline mainline track as well as the sight triangles at grade crossings at least 250 ft. away from grade crossings. Other work includes:
Collaboration
Due to the live track, constant communication and collaboration is essential for the safe completion of any work on the job. The team is responsible for all MOW responsibilities according to the Code of Federal Requirements (CFR), Washington Utilities and Transportation Codes (WUTC) and all other necessary compliant requirements. Beyond Sound Transit, teams must coordinate with BNSF, Tacoma Rail, and Amtrak before work can be safely performed.
