Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

To honor National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) and the continuing story of Hispanic Heritage, Stacy and Witbeck is proud to spotlight a few of our employees.

Continue reading to see what Hispanic Heritage means to them:

Byron Godoy, Silver Lake Reservoir Office & Field Engineer

“Hispanic heritage has shaped every aspect of my life. I try my best to carry on the strength of my parents and uphold the opportunities they didn’t have. My heritage has shaped how I view my family, the respect I show others, and the appreciation I have for my culture. My advice would be to believe in yourself and no matter how many times life knocks you down, never give up. You have a voice, so don’t be afraid to use it! I am most proud of our view on family culture and keeping a positive attitude about hard work. Also, we have the best food!

Albert Araiza, Ogden Bus Rapid Transit Superintendent

“My Mexican heritage has shaped me to be a better person and give my family what I never had growing up. It has shaped my values, my personality, my goals, and taught me to never take for granted where I have come from, or where it has brought me to today. My advice to others of Hispanic/Latinx heritage would be to never give up on yourself. Always give 150%. It’s not what you’re capable of, it’s what you are willing to do. What I love most about my Hispanic Heritage is the family culture, food, dancing, and giving. I am most proud of our pride and power of perseverance. I have always put high value on my work ethic even when times are tough. There is so much history behind the Mexican Heritage that keeps me pushing every day - and reminds me of the struggles - and all the hard work up to this day to never forget my journey.”

CapMetro IDIQ Bus Improvements Foreperson

“This month means a lot to all of us Hispanics, as it gives us a moment to reflect on where we come from. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we are reminded that family is always at the center of our faith. It is a good time to reflect and see how far we’ve come as a community. I think in my 55 years, my advice would be don’t compare yourself to others. The reality is we all have incredible gifts and I would encourage everyone to focus on their gifts and support others in theirs. I feel blessed to come from a long line of very united brothers and sisters. Being Hispanic in this nation helps us realize our capabilities and seize opportunities of the hard-working people that came before us.”

While we value diversity of all kinds year round, it’s especially nice to take the time to spotlight these team members during Hispanic Heritage Month. Thanks for all that you do!
