This was an $84 million project to construct one segment of Valley Metro’s first light rail system. Scope included 4.9 miles of embedded double track, three cast-in-place post-tensioned bridges over freeways, one precast box girder bridge, utility relocations, road widening, system duct banks, OCS foundations, seven station platforms, and nine retaining wall structures.
The project was constructed through busy commercial, residential, and business areas. Major stakeholders directly adjacent to the project required significant coordination and scheduling around major events in Downtown Tempe and Arizona State University. The project was graded monthly by a Community Advisory Board (CAB) on how we handled traffic control, noise and dust, cleanliness, and timely problem resolution.
The project achieved the maximum grade possible from the CAB.
