Building on our ongoing preconstruction work for FrontRunner 2X, we’re ready to take on the FrontRunner Point Improvements Project with a focus on doubling track capacity at key choke points along Utah’s commuter rail corridor to improve reliability and increase service.
As part of the project, we will add double track to approximately seven additional miles of rail across three southern segments: north of Vineyard Station, north of Orem Station, and north of Provo Station. The scope also includes construction of a new commuter station in Bluffdale, complete with a park-and-ride facility to better serve the growing population including Utah’s largest new development, The Point.
In total, our team will double track 11 locations and perform one rail realignment. All of the track improvements will enable the addition of 10 more trainsets to the corridor. To house the new trainsets, a new maintenance facility will be constructed adjacent to one of the new double track segments. These upgrades will boost service frequency to every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during off-peak times, cutting current wait times in half. By removing key bottlenecks, the project will also enhance schedule reliability and provide passengers with better connections to Trax light rail and BRT routes.
Through our RMSS joint venture between MRS and MJG, we’re leading the signaling and systems scope to ensure seamless integration and safety enhancements across the expanded alignment.
